Why is Cynthia Erivo Not At the Golden Globes?

Cynthia Erivo‘s stunning performance in Wicked: For Good certainly changed fans for good… but her absence from the 2026 Golden Globes left them wondering where she may be.

Erivo, who starred as Elphaba in both parts of director Jon M. Chu‘s musical movie adaptation, landed a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy category.

The 39-year-old actress was in good company in this year’s category, alongside fellow nominees Rose Byrne (If I Had Legs I’d Kick You), Kate Hudson (Song Sung Blue), Chase Infiniti (One Battle After Another), Amanda Seyfried (The Testament of Ann Lee), and Emma Stone (Bugonia). However, Erivo was missing from the star-studded awards ceremony at the Beverly Hilton on Sunday night, hosted by Nikki Glaser.

The Glinda to Erivo’s Elphaba, Ariana Grande, was in attendance at Sunday night’s awards show, having been nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture. The award ultimately went to Teyana Taylor for her performance in One Battle After Another.

Variety reported on Tuesday (Jan. 6) that Erivo would not be in attendance at this year’s Golden Globes because of her schedule for the one-woman production of Dracula she is starring in on the West End, which will see her taking on 23 parts. According to the outlet, the show begins previews on Feb. 4.
