Giants interview Seahawks’ fast rising coordinator Klint Kubiak as coaching search heats up
Klint Kubiak was born just a few weeks after the Giants handed his father a loss in Super Bowl 21.
Nearly 39 years later, Kubiak conducted a virtual interview Saturday to be the Giants head coach, according to an NFL Network report.

Kubiak, the Seahawks’ offensive coordinator, is one of the hottest names on the market after calling plays for the NFL’s No. 3-highest scoring offense this season.
His father, Gary, was John Elway’s backup quarterback on the 1986 Broncos, who lost to the Giants in Super Bowl 21.
Gary later became a head coach for the Texans and Broncos, leading the Peyton Manning-quarterbacked Broncos to a title in Super Bowl 50.
Klint Kubiak worked under his father in Denver and Minnesota and is part of the esteemed Shanahan coaching tree.
He was the Vikings’ offensive coordinator in 2021, the Broncos’ quarterbacks coach in 2022, the 49ers’ passing game coordinator in 2023 and the Saints’ offensive coordinator in 2024.
Like all members of the Shanahan tree, the run game is a big part of the offensive focus and the Seahawks had a dynamic 1-2 punch in Kenneth Walker III and Zach Charbonnet to complement quarterback Sam Darnold.
The Giants think they have their own rising stud backfield tandem in Cam Skattebo and Tyrone Tracy Jr.
The Giants also conducted a virtual interview Saturday with Broncos special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi.
Members of the Broncos and Seahawks staffs were the only playoff coaches available for virtual interviews this week under NFL rules because their teams received first-round byes.
The Giants also held a virtual interview with Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph.
Kubiak is the kind of offensive mind that shows a prioritization of quarterback Jaxson Dart’s development in the head coach search.
In-person interviews with coaches under contract cannot begin until Jan. 19.
The Giants are expected to have an in-person interview with leading candidate John Harbaugh, who was fired by the Ravens, this week.
