“I know, it’s as weird as it sounds,” she quipped.
Ripa read that the event is taking place on Sunday, Jan. 11 in New York City, no matter the weather.
“Riders on the subway will go pantsless in the name of comedy—they want you to know, it’s in the name of comedy. Thank God, now we know that,” she teased. “I find it to be the least funny weekend of the year.”
Mark Consuelos joked, “If you’re in the subway system often, that’s not something new. That’s called Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.”
Nonetheless, Ripa noted that the ride is “a special day worldwide,” as pants-less participants span as far as Tokyo and Jerusalem.
“In Moscow, they drew attention by local police who stated they were searching for the organizers of the event,” she read. “Uh-oh. In 2002, an annual flash mob occurred everywhere in different cities across the globe. And then it seemed to just, like herpes, come back every year.”

Ripa then teased a picture of one of Live‘s very own staffers taking part in the event before unveiling a fake picture of Live EP Michael Gelman going pants-less on the subway.
“Wow, that’s not how you described it at all, Gelman,” she added.
