Carson Beck basks in ‘best feeling of my life’ after Miami’s CFP win
After delivering the game-winning touchdown on one of the biggest stages of his collegiate career, as his sixth and final season winds down at his second school, Carson Beck didn’t even attempt to hide his emotions after Miami defeated Ole Miss in the Fiesta Bowl on Thursday.
“It’s the best feeling I’ve ever had in my life,” Beck told ESPN when asked about his go-ahead touchdown run with 18 seconds left. “Man, I’m so proud of this team. We never flinched. I mean, in the face of adversity when we had to respond, we responded. We never gave up.

“I looked at the guys on the sideline and you could just see it in their eye. You could see it in their eye. We all had a good feeling that what just happened was about to happen.”
Beck, who transferred to Miami after five seasons and two national championships at Georgia, threw for 268 yards and two touchdowns in the College Football Playoff semifinal, but his most notable contributions occurred on the Hurricanes’ final drive — when they responded to the Rebels taking a late lead and Beck produced a three-yard touchdown run to give Miami a 31-27 edge.
He has collected for 3,581 yards, 29 touchdowns and 11 interceptions this season, scripting another impressive chapter after tearing his UCL in the SEC Championship game last year.
And this latest stretch for the Hurricanes has perhaps been the most unexpected stretch in an unexpected season for him.
Beck and the Hurricanes didn’t even make the ACC Championship game, but they still earned an at-large CFP bid as the No. 10 seed and proceeded to upset No. 7-seed Texas A&M, No. 2-seed Ohio State and then No. 6-seed Ole Miss.

“I told them, ‘We got three minutes for the rest of our life,’” Beck said in his broadcast interview of what he told the offense before the final drive. “No s–t else matters. Sorry, I don’t mean to cuss. Emotions are rolling. Nothing else matters, we got three minutes to go through this, man. I mean, everything we’ve worked for since January, everything we’ve been through, all the adversity that we’ve faced, all comes down to three minutes in the semifinals.
“Shoot, we were able to drive it down and finish it.”

Beck will now have a chance to win a third national championship — and his first as a starter — when Miami faces the winner of Indiana and Oregon on Jan. 19 in what’ll essentially double as a home game at Hard Rock Stadium.
