Who is Renee Nicole Good Minneapolis woman killed by ICE agent

Renee Nicole Good, the 37-year-old mother of three fatally shot by an ICE agent in Minnesota Wednesday morning, was a stay-at-home mom who didn’t show any signs of activism, according to family.

Good was killed when she allegedly floored her Honda Pilot into a federal agent after blocking them in a residential Minneapolis neighborhood during an immigration operation.

Surveillance video obtained by CNN captured the maroon SUV parked on the street blocking traffic for nearly three minutes before the ICE agents drove through the neighborhood.

Good was shot in the head as she attempted to drive off, crashing into a parked car down the road.

Born in Colorado Springs, Good, whose full name was Renee Nicole Macklin Good, was a devout Christian who took part in youth missions to Northern Ireland as a child.

In high school, Good participated in chorus, where she showed off a love for singing before studying vocal performance in college.

Good attended Old Dominion University in Virginia. She studied creative writing and graduated from the College of Arts and Letters with a degree in English in 2020.

“This is yet another clear example that fear and violence have sadly become commonplace in our nation. Indeed, this tragedy reflects the deep strain being felt in countless communities across our nation. As citizens, it is our duty and right to call upon leaders and officials to restore civility in all facets of our lives, especially at the hands of those who are entrusted to protect and serve,” Old Dominion University President Brian O. Hemphill wrote after her death.

She described herself as a “poet and writer and wife and mom.”

In 2020, Good received an Academy of American Poets Prize for her poem titled “On Learning to Dissect Fetal Pigs.”

“May Renee’s life be a reminder of what unites us: freedom, love, and peace,” Hemphill said. “My hope is for compassion, healing, and reflection at a time that is becoming one of the darkest and most uncertain periods in our nation’s history.”

Renee Nicole Good’s family

Good had three children, a 15-year-old daughter and a 12-year-old son with her first husband and a 6-year-old son with her second.

Good had moved to Valley Falls, Kansas with her parents after her second husband, who suffered from PTSD, died in 2023.

She then moved to Kansas City, Missouri, before relocating to Minnesota last year and claimed on social media to be “experiencing Minneapolis,” displaying a pride flag emoji on her Instagram account.

Her ex-husband said Good was a stay-at-home mother, but previously worked as a dental assistant and at a credit union.

The former spouse, who remained anonymous, never saw his ex-wife as an activist and didn’t know her to participate in protests.

He said Good and her current partner had just dropped off the 6-year-old at school before they encountered the ICE agents

Fatal shooting

Video following the shooting appeared to capture the heartbroken partner hysterically blaming herself for Good’s death.

“I made her come down here, it’s my fault,” the woman said through sobs. “They just shot my wife.”

“They shot her in the head. I have a 6-year-old in school,” she appeared to say.

The Trump administration tagged Good as a “domestic terrorist” after the shooting.

“Today, ICE officers in Minneapolis were conducting targeted operations when rioters began blocking ICE officers and one of these violent rioters weaponized her vehicle, attempting to run over our law enforcement officers in an attempt to kill them — an act of domestic terrorism,” DHS assistant secretary for public affairs Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement.

“An ICE officer, fearing for his life, the lives of his fellow law enforcement and the safety of the public, fired defensive shots. He used his training and saved his own life and that of his fellow officers.” 

Good was killed on her older sister’s birthday, her uncle Robert Granger told ABC Denver7.

Her parents described her as a caring human being who was killed in a “stupid” circumstance.

“Renee was one of the kindest people I’ve ever known,” her mother, Donna Ganger, told the Star Tribune.

“She was extremely compassionate. She’s taken care of people all her life. She was loving, forgiving and affectionate. She was an amazing human being.”

“She was probably terrified,” Ganger added, saying the circumstances of the death were “so stupid.”
