2026 Golden Globes Snubs & Surprises: ‘Wicked For Good’ Out For Best Musical, Jacob Elordi In For ‘Frankenstein’

Nominations for the 2026 Golden Globes were announced this morning and, as always, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association was determined to bring the drama. Beloved starlets, recent Emmy winners, and Wicked: For Good were all snubbed in major categories, while indie faves like Eva Victor and Hollywood heartthrobs like Jacob Elordi nabbed key noms.

Sure, early Oscars favorites like One Battle After Another and Sinners gobbled up a ton of nominations on the film side, but no one predicted quite the amount of love that Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, Benny Safdie’s The Smashing Machine or Eva Victor’s Sorry, Baby wound up getting. In a shocking turn of events, Wicked: For Good, the musical film event of the year, was snubbed in the Best Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy category.

On the television front, recent Emmys darlings Adolescence and Severance dominated the nominations, but there were still some major surprises. For one thing, the HFPA seemed to like The White Lotus Season 3 much more than Emmy voters. Season stand out Aimee Lou Wood finally got recognition for her exquisite turn as Chelsea, but at the expense of squeezing out The Pitt‘s Katherine LaNasa. Jacob Elordi also managed to get a nomination for an under-watched Prime Video show, The Narrow Road to the Deep North.

• SNUB: Wicked: For Good for Best Musical

• SURPRISE: Aimee Lou Wood for Best TV Supporting Actress for The White Lotus

  In many ways, Aimee Lou Wood was the heart and soul of The White Lotus Season 3, so it’s fantastic to see her finally get her flowers for her incandescent turn as Chelsea. Without Chelsea’s sweet, zodiac-loving spirit, The White Lotus‘s third season would not have been quite so fun to watch or tragic to take in. The only bummer about this glorious surprise? • SNUB: Katherine La Nasa for Best TV Supporting Actress for The Pitt

  Katherine La Nasa won a well-deserved Emmy for her turn as nurse Dana Evans in The Pitt, but it seems that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association was really in the pocket for The White Lotus Season 3. While Emmy voters cooled on the star-studded HBO show, the Golden Globes lavished the series’s latest season with a whopping six nominations. In that tight shuffle, poor La Nasa was left out in the cold. The good news? She can get them back next year. (What? It’s not like Aimee Lou Wood is checking back into The White Lotus.) — MO

• SURPRISE: Eva Victor for Best Film Drama Actress for Sorry, Baby

  In a big win for independent film, Eva Victor was nominated for their performance in their directorial debut, which they also wrote and starred in. This gorgeous A24 drama stars Victor as an English professor dealing with the trauma of her past sexual assault. Despite rave reviews from Sundance, it looked like Sorry, Baby was going to fly under the radar this awards season—until the Globes gave it new life. Go stream this gem on HBO Max ASAP! — AM

• SURPRISE: Frankenstein for Best Drama, Best Drama Actor (Oscar Isaac), Best Film Supporting Actor (Jacob Elordi), and Best Director (Guillermo Del Toro)

  We expected Guillermo del Toro’s adaptation of Mary Shelley’s classic horror novel to nab at least one nomination, but we didn’t foresee it making out quite so handsomely. Perhaps it shouldn’t be a surprise that del Toro, one of Mexico’s most beloved storytellers, knows how to speak to an international audience like the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. — AM

• SURPRISE: Jacob Elordi for Best Male Actor in a Limited Series, Anthology Series, or Made-For-TV Movie for The Narrow Road to the Deep North

  Honest question: Did you even know that Jacob Elordi starred in a Prime Video series called The Narrow Road to the Deep North? I was dimly aware that it was a thing, but that’s only because it’s my job to keep tabs on what shows are hitting streaming in any given week. The point is, Jacob Elordi is officially not just one of Hollywood’s most hyped young talents, but a tinseltown favorite. A legit star. A bonafide movie star that the Hollywood Foreign Press Association wants seen on camera at the Beverly Hilton on January 11. Well, that, and it seems from the nominations for Prime Video’s The Girlfriend that Amazon’s awards team really knew how to get their shows in front of Golden Globes voters. — MO

• SNUB: The Ben Shapiro Show for Best Podcast

  For the first time ever, the Golden Globes is honoring the Best Podcast of the year and, boy, did it offer Ben Shapiro an opportunity to brown nose the Hollywood elites he claims to loathe. In case you missed it, Shapiro launched an all-out campaign to get not just a nomination, but the ultimate win. (There were literally billboards in Times Square!) In the end, he was shut out in favor of Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard, Call Her Daddy, Good Hang With Amy Poehler, The Mel Robbins Podcast, Smartless, and NPR’s Up First. Do we smell the right’s latest culture war forming in real time? Will the Golden Globes be canceled next? — MO
