Manchester United are plotting an audacious swoop for Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma in the wake of his stunning performance in the Champions League, reports claim.
The giant Italian was almost made singularly responsible for Arsenal’s failure to reach the European Cup final by Gunners boss Mikel Arteta who labelled him as the Parisian’s ‘best player’ after their 3-1 aggregate win.
Donnarumma, whose contract in Paris expires in 2026, made a string of stunning saves to thwart the Premier League side at the start of the second-leg on Wednesday.
His heroics, which followed impressive displays in previous rounds against Liverpool and Aston Villa, have thrust him into the spotlight in recent weeks and led to speculation over his future.
According to TEAMtalk and Spanish outlet Fichajes, the 26-year-old is attracting interest from the English top flight, with both Manchester clubs tracking his situation.
The outlet claim that United boss Ruben Amorim has told the club to make an offer for the Euro 2020 winner in a deal that could be worth in excess of €60million (£51m).
The Red Devils could be in the market for a new stopper this summer, given the number of high-profile errors made by current No 1 Andre Onana.
The Cameroon international, who was signed from Inter Milan for £43m in 2023, was at fault for two goals in United’s Europa League quarter-final first leg draw with Lyon.

On his omission, Amorim told Sky Sports: ‘It is a normal thing. Sometimes, you have to push the player to play again, sometimes you have to let him disconnect a little bit.’
United’s ability to tempt Donnarumma to Old Trafford will depend on the outcome of the Europa League final later this month.
