Tiffani Thiessen never misses a chance to throw it back to the ’90s — and that includes keeping in regular contact with her Saved by the Bell castmates.
Speaking about her partnership with Chili’s to promote their new (color-changing!) $6 Radical ‘Rita, the 51-year-old actress and mom of two tells PEOPLE that “text chains are always happening” involving her fellow Bell alumni, including Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Elizabeth Berkley and Mario Lopez.
“We talk often,” says Thiessen, who played kindhearted cheerleader Kelly Kapowski on the hit teen sitcom from 1989 to 1993, as well as Saved by the Bell: The College Years (1993 to 1994) and various spinoff specials and movies, originally ending with 1994’s Saved by the Bell: Wedding in Las Vegas.
“I talk to them still pretty frequently,” she adds. “I talked to Mark-Paul just a couple days ago. Elizabeth asked me a question the other day. Mario asked me a question, as well. We definitely … if it’s not DMing, it’s texting.”

More recently, Thiessen returned as Kelly Kapowski Morris — still married to slacker-turned-governor-of-California Zack Morris (Gosselaar, 51) — in a revival of the original show, which aired on Peacock for two seasons from November 2020 to December 2021.
Asked whether she thinks another Bell iteration is in the cards at some point in the future, the Beverly Hills, 90210 alumna admits, “I don’t think so. I think they tried it.”
Thiessen says she “loved the reboot,” though, and praises the team behind the series for doing “a great job” — particularly showrunner Tracey Wigfield, whom she says “did an amazing job to make it different” while still preserving “the essence of the [original series].”
“It only lasted two seasons, sadly,” Thiessen adds. “[But] who knows? There are other shows that are in my sort of realm that are further along in possibly getting a reboot.”

In her new ’90s-themed ad for Chili’s, Thiessen sits at the bar while sipping the new Radical ‘Rita, a beverage crafted with Lunazul blanco tequila, Monin dragonfruit, a float of blue Curaçao and house-made sour, garnished with a lime wedge and a collection of ’90s-inspired swizzle sticks.
As Kelly, Thiessen had her own share of restaurant “experience” as a waitress at Bayside High School students’ favorite diner, The Max. And asked what Kelly might order at Chili’s, the White Collar actress tells PEOPLE, “I feel like she’d have a big appetite.”
“Maybe she’s really tired of [The Max’s] food. Maybe she’s the girl who would order something totally not popular at Chili’s,” she says. “If she’s serving [burgers] all the time, maybe she would not be the burger girl. Maybe she’d be the fajita girl. Because maybe there were no fajitas at The Max.”
